Almost immediately after Google Wave was released I heard it was dead. People especially couldn’t see the implications for learning. However about a month ago I had the ability to try this tool out first hand. While attending LearnTrends a public wave was opened and I was able to work with a large group of people to take “community style” notes for each of the presentations. It was a great experience. Not only did we have a complete set of notes, but we were able to ask each other questions and dig deeper in to the content than any of us would have done on our own.
I sat down today to blog about my Google Wave experience and ended up finding the video below. It is an example that is quite similar to my story and is a great summary in only 10 minutes.
As Dan York points out public waves may have some security issues. However remember that not all waves need to be public to be beneficial . You can use Google Wave and only open the wave to the people in your class, department, or company.
Once Google Wave gets past their limited release and opens the community up to everyone I think this is going to be a great tool. This is your chance to be ahead of the curve, so I urge you to start learning more about Wave now. To get a primer click here and check out the looooooong video that Google put together about Wave.
Best,
